Why We Started LocalThink

As AI becomes part of human thinking, we believe the memory, reasoning, and knowledge created between humans and machines should belong to the people who create it.

On June 11, 2026, we incorporated LocalThink Inc.

Not because the world needed another AI company.

Not because we wanted to build another chatbot.

And not because we believed we had invented the next big thing.

We started LocalThink because we believe a new question is emerging:

As AI becomes part of human thinking, who owns the thinking that happens between humans and machines?

For centuries, our thoughts lived in notebooks, letters, books, and personal computers.

Today, an increasing portion of our thinking happens inside conversations with AI systems.

These conversations contain ideas, memories, plans, reasoning, and decisions.

In other words, they contain part of our thinking.

Yet most of that thinking remains trapped inside closed platforms.

We believe that is a problem.

We believe personal thinking should remain personal, even in an age of intelligent machines.

That belief became the foundation of LocalThink.

Why We Created LTF

LocalThink Format (LTF) is the first project we created.

LTF is an open standard for preserving human-AI conversations as portable, readable, long-lived files.

We released LTF under CC0.

No permission required.

No royalties.

No vendor lock-in.

Anyone can use it.

Anyone can implement it.

Anyone can build on top of it.

Because personal thinking should belong to individuals, not platforms.

Our Role

LocalThink Inc. created LTF and currently maintains the specification.

We also build early tools and fund the infrastructure behind the project.

Our commitment is simple: keep the core format open, and keep building tools that help people own, preserve, and extend their thinking.

What Comes Next

LTF is only the beginning.

We are also building:

  • LTF Builder
  • LocalThink App
  • Future infrastructure for personal AI environments

These are different implementations of the same mission:

Protecting personal thinking.

We do not know exactly what Human-AI Symbiosis will look like in twenty years.

But we believe one principle should remain unchanged:

Your thinking should belong to you.
